Programme

Programme

1. After a brief introduction, we start by examining and testing teapots. Every teapot pours differently. This way, you can find out what your preference is. We then dissect the teapot into its parts: the body with the lid, the spout, and the handle.

2. Short technical introduction to clay and clay slabs. A hands-on introduction for beginners and advanced students to experience the 'ins and outs' of clay, so that you can use the properties of clay to your advantage when sculpting your teapot.

3. Different ways to get started. Sketching with pencil on paper or jumping straight into clay. Everyone has their own preference.

4.From separate parts to a whole. We sculpt all the components individually and assemble the teapot later. You work at your own pace toward a beautiful end result.

5. Safely wrapping and storing the separate parts so you can continue the next day.

6. Assembling the separate parts into a teapot. Once the components have dried a little and are firm enough to handle without warping, you assemble them into a teapot.

7. Extra. If you have time left over, you can sculpt matching teacups.

What you'll learn in this workshop

You'll learn more about clay and how to build sturdy structures.
How to attach separate parts to each other using clay slip.
You'll learn how a teapot is put together.
You'll discover the secrets of a well-pouring spout.
After glazing and firing, you'll have a pouring teapot you'll enjoy drinking tea from for years to come. Out with those big mugs and a lovely teapot on the table.

Lunch is provided. It's always good to step away from what you're making for a bit. (If you have dietary requirements, it's helpful to check in advance whether we can accommodate them, or whether you should bring your own lunch.)
